This Jollibee-inspired Burger steak combines seasoned beef patties with a rich and savory mushroom gravy. Serve over warm rice or vegetables for a hearty, comforting meal!
Ingredients and Substitutions
*The Recipe Card below includes all the full measurements for these ingredients!
Ground beef: Go for ground beef with a decent amount of fat. Either medium-fat ground beef or a 80/20 split (80% lean, 20% fat)
Bread crumbs, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, salt, black pepper, egg: These are the standards mix-ins for our burger patty that will give it a distinct savoriness.
Beef stock, butter, mushrooms, garlic, flour, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder: These will make up the rich, luscious mushroom gravy for our burger steaks. Beef stock can be substituted with chicken stock. Flour can be substituted with a cornstarch slurry added towards the end for thickening. Dark soy sauce can be substituted with regular light soy sauce. Worcestershire sauce can be omitted without altering the flavor too much.

Instructions
*The Recipe Card below includes all the full detailed instructions!
Combine all the ingredients together for the burger patties. Split into 4 evenly-sized balls and shape into patties.

Fry the patties on both sides until cooked through. Set aside.

In the same pan, prepare the gravy. Let simmer for 8 to 10 minutes to thicken.

Serve with rice. Top with the gravy, green onions, and crispy shallots or garlic, if desired.

Cooking Tips
Mushrooms: feel free to use any mushroom of your choice for this recipe. While traditional Filipino burger steak tends to use canned mushrooms (which is typically more accessible and budget-friendly!), some of my favorite varieties to use include: cremini, shiitake, portobello, or white button.
Ground beef: this is all up according to your preference. You can opt to use either regular ground beef or lean ground beef for this recipe. Either kind works, it just depends on how much fat content you prefer for the patties.
- If you’re looking to add some extra flavor to the burger patties and sauce, you can try adding in some herbs such as thyme, rosemary, or even basil. For a bit of spice, sprinkling in some chili flakes or cayenne pepper also work great in here! To make the sauce even richer, try adding in a splash of heavy cream.
